Welcome to Sequim! The Lavender Capitol of the World! What a beautiful place to live, at such an exciting time of the year! With fall just beginning, a new season in on the horizon, for the missionary work in this area as well...! We are teaching some amazing people, and we have been finding many of our brothers and sisters who are willing to learn more about the restored gospel of Jesus Christ.
What makes the message of the restored gospel so unique is that we have the Book of Mormon, and modern prophets and apostles here on the earth today to lead and guide the church. That way, the church, the gospel, and the message will not change. This church is a RESTORATION of the Gospel that Christ established here in these latter days; NOT a reformation. I am so excited to share the gospel with the prepared people here in the Dungeness and Sequim areas!
ALMA 16:16-17
16 And there was no inequality among them; the Lord did pour out his Spirit on all the face of the land to prepare the minds of the children of men, or to prepare their hearts to receive the word which should be taught among them at the time of his coming--
17 That they might not be hardened against the word, that they might not be unbelieving, and go on to destruction, but that they might receive the word with joy, and as abranch be grafted into the true vine, that they might enter into the rest of the Lord their God.
There is so much lavender here, it is crazy! People grow tons of lavender in their front yards as landscaping, and they can do everything with it! They sell lavender ice cream, fudge, oils, air fresheners, soaps, paints, you name it! Lots of really nice people live here, and a lot of people move to Sequim to retire, because of the weather here- it is primarily mild in comparison to the weather in the rest of western Washington. Sequim is located in a little bit of a rain shadow because of the mountains, and so people say they live in a "rain hole"; rains everywhere else but Sequim!
The Rainy Season is starting to roll in, and fall is here! Fall is one of my favorite seasons, and I love the cool Washington air! The other missionary's in my district are the Happy Valley, Port Angeles 1st, Port Angeles 2nd, and Forks missionaries.
The Lesson in Relief Society in the Dungeness ward this last week was on the elderly. The Sister teaching the lesson shared a really cool story about how she is a school teacher, and she teaches some little girls who are members of the Quileute Indian Tribe. They told her that they were going to be missing a week of school, and she asked them why - the proceeded to tell her that it was going to be 'Elders Week'. They told her that that is when they spend an entire week thanking their elders.
What am amazing thing to have such wonderful Elders in our lives - Parents, Grandparents, Ancestors, who gave so much for us, so that we can live here in the promised land. We can read about some of our elders and forbearers in the Book of Mormon, and learn more about our more recent Elders when we do family history work. Family history work is missionary work.
Remember, we are all missionaries as members of Christ's church. We are called to preach the gospel in his name, and guide all of our brothers and sisters back home to our Father in Heaven. I know that no matter where we are called to serve, we are no less serviceable in Gods eyes. Don't ever forget who you are, and what you are to become!
Keep moving forward, and stay classy!
